The USS LST 325, a 328-foot-long Landing Ship Tank, will dock in Hannibal Riverfront. It will be available for tours September 15th – 18th from 9 AM to 5 PM. This ship participated in the D-Day Invasion on June 6th, 1944.

In 1941, they were the largest ship designed to place tanks, troops and cargo onto a hostile beach and then retract off the shore. 1,051 LSTs were built for WWII. Churchill called it “The Ship That Won the War.”

These LST ships could carry twenty Sherman tanks in the giant hold within the ship. They were the only ships ever made that could go anywhere in the world and deposit their cargo onto a hostile beach and then go get another load. On the main deck they could also carry 30-40 trucks, tons of fuels, ammunition or supplies and soldiers. The LSTs were used during World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam conflicts. This ship, LST 325, was in the invasion at Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. It was also at Sicily on July 10, 1943.

All crew members/guides are volunteers who take the ship to ports to bring history to life. Your tour includes a handout, a self-guided tour through many parts of the ship, the opportunity to take pictures, and of course a chance to stop by the gift shop! All money goes to support this living museum. These self-guided tours typically take 30-45 minutes. More information about what to expect on the tour can be found by viewing this brief video.

To set up school/group tours, before the docking, please call the LST office at 812-435-8678 or email LST325schoolgroups@gmail.com. Group rates are available.
