Take a Night Hike to learn all about fireflies, “fairies of the night”.
Join in a Night Hike through Sodalis Nature Preserve, at 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, called “Fairies of the Night: The Magical World of Fireflies”.
Fireflies are Nature’s fairies. These beetles in the Lampryidae family are like little blinking lamps lighting up the dark. They contain a bioluminescent chemical which allows them to flash signals to each other. Different kinds of lightning bugs prefer different kinds of habitats like open fields, streams, or forests – like the ones at Sodalis.
Meet at the Sodalis Parking lot on Ely Street. The full program is approximately two hours and covers a two-mile paved loop with a steep incline. Participants have the option to return sooner as desired. Please register as space is limited: https://hannibalparks.recdesk.com/Community/Program
