St. Louis Osuwa Taiko traces its origins to 1986, when Daihachi Oguchi – the grand master of Japan’s renowned Osuwa Taiko – visited St. Louis, sister city to Suwa in Nagano Prefecture. During his visit, he gifted the city a set of taiko drums and taught a local youth group to play, planting the seeds for what would become St. Louis Osuwa Taiko.
